Employee Benefits and Optional Employee Benefits

The Township of Ocean School District shall provide Non-Contributory Group Life Insurance as described below for Teachers Pension and Annuity Fund (TPAF)

• Non-Contributory Group Life: As an active member of the TPAF fund, the Ocean Township Board of Education provides non-contributory group life insurance.  There is NO cost to the employee.  Coverage is 1.5X salary.  Any age at no cost.
• Contributory Group Life: Paid for by the employee, coverage is required by law for your first 12 months of membership with the TPAF. After 12 months, coverage may be waived by the employee.  2X Salary (3.5 x Salary when added to Non-Contrib. above). At any age; 0.4% of Salary.*

• Non-Contributory Group Life: As an active member of the PERS fund, the Ocean Township Board of Education provides non-contributory group life insurance. There is NO cost to the employee. 1.5 x Salary.  At any age at no cost.
• Contributory Group Life: Paid for by the employee, coverage is required by law for your first 12 months of membership with the PERS. After 12 months, coverage may be waived by the employee.  1.5 x Salary, (3.0 x Salary when added to Non-Contrib. above)  At any age, 0.05% of Salary.**Please refer to State of New Jersey Public Employees Retirement System member handbook for further details.

Life Insurance Coverage: Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (DCRP)

• Non Contributory Group Life: DCRP member is covered by employer-paid life insurance, payable to designated beneficiaries. 1.5% of Salary, at any age, no cost.  *Please refer to State of New Jersey Public Employees Retirement System member handbook for further details.

• This optional plan provides for income protection during periods of illness for N.J.E.A. members only.  This plan is not endorsed or paid for by the Board of Education. All Township of Ocean School District employees are eligible to participate in an optional 403(b) and/or 457 Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA) Programs.  These plans allow employees to save funds pre-tax for retirement via payroll deductions.  Earnings in a TSA are free from federal taxation until a participant withdraws the money.  There are restrictions on your ability to access the funds.
